Youki Hirakawa

Youki Hirakawa is the third international resident at PRÁM, where he will stay throughout September. His solo exhibition will open with a vernissage on September 9 at 6 PM, curated by Šárka Koudelová.

Youki Hirakawa creates works that subtly introduce Eastern perspectives into the structures, histories, and contexts of various objects. Through dark humor, he shifts and disrupts Western narratives.

This approach reflects Japan’s complex historical position. Once a colonial power in Asia, Japan, after its defeat in World War II, came under strong American influence and underwent rapid modernization. This divided experience, along with the distortions and cultural complexes it produced, profoundly shapes his artistic practice.
